Yarn Along: Two sweaters and Forties Fashion

I am working on one of the sleeves for the vintage cardigan, and cast on the back of the red pullover I wanted to make.  (It looks much smaller than it is--the ribbing bunches it up a lot, plus I'm planning to block it pretty aggressively).  The second photo is of the "right" side of the pattern; I kind of think I like the "wrong" side better--thoughts?

And I'm currently inhaling this lovely beauty!

So many lovely dresses, so much great information on fashion history of the 1940s, and other interesting tidbits.  I'm geeking out over here--my inner historian is having a research feast.

I want to recreate this outfit (black out cloth skirt and all!)

  1. fun book! I like the sweater either way... you are doing well! I am reading a book on culinary/cookbook history and loving it too!

  2. Great book. I love looking at the fashions of the 30's and 40's. I like either side of your sweater.

  3. That book ties with 1940s Fashion: The Definitive Sourcebook as my all-time favourite tome on the styles and fashion scene of the forties. I reread my copy probably once every 4-6 months, and adore it more and more each time.

*PS* Thank you very much for your terrifically nice comment on my vintage plaid vest outfit post yesterday. How cool that we're both devoted fans of that shade of emerald green.

    1. The Sourcebook is on my wish list! I just bought the 1940s House and the Wartime Scrapbook, both of which are completely interesting as war history background (the historian in me loves all that stuff!), but only glancingly on the fashion (which is fine). Sourcebook for Christmas, perhaps? Or St. Nicholas Day! Thanks for stopping by!!
